Two projects in Tamale completed - customers highly satisfied

In April, we were able to celebrate the completion of two customers' systems in Tamale. The capital of Ghana's Northern Region is home to two very different customers, namely the recycling company Zablikani Ltd. and the Northern Eye Clinic. In total, EWIA has already completed four projects (the Radach Hotel and the Regal Hotel are the other two) in Ghana's third largest city, which is also the fastest growing city in West Africa.
Growth is a good keyword, because EWIA is also growing steadily: we have built both projects in parallel, which speaks in favour of good project management and well-rehearsed processes.
The Zablikani plant
After the financing round at Zablikani was completed in January, the team was faced with structural challenges. Roof reinforcements required another three weeks of additional work.
Zablikani's PV system with a capacity of 57 KWp and 61 kWh of storage is now in operation and, thanks to battery storage, provides the plastic recycling company with up to two hours of uninterrupted power supply in the event of a power outage.
As planned, the system will cover a good third of Zablikani's electricity consumption (34.5 % according to the PV Sol simulation). This will reduce Zablikani's electricity costs by around USD 900 per month (i.e. around USD 10,800 per year; more than USD 250,000 over the 25-year total term). This saving strengthens the company's economic situation and helps to counteract the flood of plastic waste.
Further tests are now underway. If necessary, the system will be expanded in order to achieve 100% self-sufficiency and independence from the grid. You can find out more about the system, the installation and the company here.
The system at Northern Eye Clinic
The Northern Community Eye Hospital (NCEH) now also has a functioning PV system. Our system adorns the roof of a new building that is nearing completion. In this first phase, the system is still rather small in size and achieves around 13 kilowatt peak (kWp) and is equipped with a 10 kWh battery storage system. The customer is extremely satisfied with the quality and, in particular, the possibility of online monitoring.
After the A1 Hospital in Kumasi, this is already the second clinic we have equipped with this system. You can read about what such a clinic means for the north of Africa here.
We are extremely pleased to be able to contribute to the success of two very different and essential endeavours. Zablikani is working to combat environmental pollution, so it is only logical that they are focussing on a resource that is inexhaustible: the sun. The eye clinic, on the other hand, is a central pillar of the country's medical infrastructure and a focal point for the entire region. Solar power significantly reduces costs in both cases, making the companies more competitive and also guaranteeing jobs.
