Obituary for Dr. Stein Skjoershammer

With great sadness, we bid farewell to Dr. Stein Skjørshammer, the founder and guiding spirit of SunErgy. He passed away on January 23, 2026, three days before his 80th birthday.

Stein, the long‑time CEO, co‑founder, and major shareholder of SunErgy A.S., was far more than an entrepreneur. He was a man of conviction in the best sense of the word — a visionary who recognized early on that sustainable energy supply is not only a technological challenge but above all a societal one. With SunErgy, the Oslo‑born Dr. Skjørshammer created a company that consistently combined economic rationality with social responsibility and translated this into real‑world impact. His mission was to supply remote villages that previously had no or only irregular access to electricity with grid‑based solar mini‑grids - grid-independent electricity that is generated and distributed directly on site. The goal was not only to bring light into the darkness, but also to improve living conditions in a sustainable manner. To realize his vision, he was always willing to lead the way with a high level of personal commitment.

His ethos—thinking long-term, acting locally, and putting people first—has always been SunErgy's guiding star. This attitude shaped the corporate culture as well as local projects and continues to have an impact far beyond his lifetime.

When EWIA Green Investments took over the German arm of SunErgy, including its activities in Cameroon, last year, we were aware that we were not only continuing a business, but also a legacy. And that is no exaggeration, because anyone who knows how life-changing the electrification of villages in Cameroon is for the inhabitants understands that someone was at work here who always cared about people.

We are committed to his values and see it as our duty to carry on his vision with respect, responsibility, and determination.

With Stein Skjørshammer's passing, we have lost an extraordinary person. His thinking, his courage, and his integrity will continue to guide us.
