Meet the Team: Mike Fohba – EWIAs Passepartout in Kamerun

Today we’d like to introduce you to one of our key pillars in Cameroon, a true jack-of-all-trades: our Managing Director, Mike Fohba. This infrastructure expert, who has also advised the World Bank, spent 20 years of his (professional) life in the U.S., where—as in Cameroon—he spearheaded major construction, transportation, and telecommunications projects. Oh, and he’s also a network systems administrator. Plus, he enjoys sharing his knowledge and vast experience as a lecturer.

Mike heads our local branch, SunErgy Ltd., which he co-founded in 2012 with partners from Norway. Because this experienced infrastructure planner and systems expert has been with the company from the very beginning, he knows the four villages that SunErgy has already electrified in Cameroon like the back of his hand.

Anyone familiar with his resume, however, is bound to ask themselves at some point: Is there anything Mike doesn’t know inside and out?

Best of Both Worlds

Although Mike has deep roots in Cameroon, he has spent a significant portion of his life in the U.S. and thus brings a variety of perspectives to the table. Cross-cultural management is one of his greatest strengths.

He spent a total of 20 years in the U.S., where he studied engineering and business and worked for many years. During that time, he launched major projects in several sectors, including transportation, energy, telecommunications, and sustainable development.

He has advised global institutions such as the World Bank and promoted public-private partnerships to strengthen the growth of local communities.

In the U.S., he was involved, among other things, in the large-scale expansion of the subway lines connecting Maryland, Virginia, and Washington, D.C. He served as a project manager at the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA). In the nation’s capital, he also worked for PEPCO (Potomac Electric Power Company) as an infrastructure planner and developer.  

Darüber hinaus hat sich Mike am National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) zum Netzwerk-Systemadministrator ausbilden lassen. Im Anschluss verantwortete er Verwaltung, Absicherung und Optimierung einer komplexen Netzwerkinfrastruktur für eine führende US-Bundesbehörde. Bei XO Communications, das 2016 von Verizon geschluckt wurde, arbeitete er als Systemanalyst.

Mike also left his mark in Cameroon. In Buea, in southwestern Cameroon, he served as co-director for the construction of the Divine Mercy Co-Cathedral in the Molyko neighborhood. The largest church building in the country’s oldest diocese—the Roman Catholic Diocese of Buea—was consecrated in January 2025. There, he was responsible for strategic planning, construction management, and the execution of the project.

Knowledge doubles when you share it

Continuing education is a major focus for Mike, at every level. He shares his knowledge as a part-time lecturer at the University of Buea. He trains students, mentors them, and bridges the gap between theoretical academic concepts and practical global industry standards.

Mike also hosts a fantastic workshop where he makes tools himself in his spare time. He’s very skilled with his hands and has a practical mindset. As a family man, he’s also deeply committed to helping his children learn about and understand Cameroonian culture.

Fortunately, he regularly shares his knowledge and anecdotes with us as well. Mike is simply the best person we could ask for as our CEO!
