Dr. Harald Lossau, managing director of Schwarz Druck GmbH, is the lead investor at EWIA Investment. He has long been fascinated by the power of the sun. For him, solar energy is a technology of the future and a way to improve sustainable coexistence. We spoke with him about why he is convinced of the benefits of working with EWIA.

What was the decisive moment when you knew: I'm going to invest in EWIA?

Dr. Harald Lossau: I have been interested in the use of solar energy ever since I studied physics. Its use is now well advanced in Germany, even though solar radiation and economic efficiency are significantly lower here than near the equator, especially in Africa. However, the use of solar energy, which makes a lot of sense from a physical point of view, is limited there by challenges such as financing, a lack of subsidies, and poor grid stability. When I learned that EWIA offers technical and economic solutions for this, I was immediately enthusiastic. Decentralized solar projects directly at the consumer's location—some of them supplemented by battery storage—create self-sufficient systems that are beneficial for the environment, customers, and thus also for investors. That convinced me—and motivates me again and again to participate in investment rounds.

What makes EWIA's business model so compelling for you – both economically and socially?

Dr. Harald Lossau: The demand for solar power systems like these in Africa is enormous. Due to the unreliable power supply, inefficient diesel generators are often used – which are particularly expensive and harmful to the environment. Solar power systems are much more economical in the long term and also make it possible to supply remote consumers with electricity at low cost. EWIA is now implementing electrification projects for entire villages, giving them new prospects and development potential.

What would you say to other investors who are considering investing in EWIA?

Dr. Harald Lossau: The great thing about EWIA is that it makes sense from a technical and economic perspective, is well managed, and is profitable for investors—and at the same time, you are doing something good for the environment and social development in Africa. What more could you want?
