New Faces and Positions at EWIAThe EWIA team is growing steadily. Peace Defor has joined our accounting department at our Accra office, effective immediately. As our organizational structure and hierarchy evolve, two long-standing staff members, Robert Baah Yawson and Marjorie Naa Ayorkor Mensah, are taking on newly created positions.
Six years after EWIA was founded, we employ 76 people across four countries (Ghana, Nigeria, Cameroon, and Germany). We typically hire local talent—this is a priority for us—and we place just as much emphasis on the professional development of our staff, as we are committed to the UN Sustainable Development Goals SDG 4 (Quality Education) and SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), among others.
After the unexpected loss of our Managing Director in Ghana, Nana, just a few weeks ago—a pillar of our company who had been with us from the very beginning—we have now made some changes to our team.
Engineer Robert Baah Yawson has been promoted to Technical Director, which we are very pleased about. Robert has over seven years of experience in the solar industry. During this time, he has designed PV systems in various countries in sub-Saharan Africa—ranging in size from 1.5 kWp to 25 MWp. In addition, he has managed complete solar projects up to 782.1 kWp from planning through commissioning. In total, he has implemented projects with a combined capacity of 2.4 MWp.
In addition, Marjorie Naa Ayorkor Mensah will assume the role of Commercial Director effective immediately. Marjorie is a certified public accountant (ICAG) with several years of experience in the hospitality industry, the public sector, and the manufacturing industry. She began her career as a financial and administrative assistant at a church before joining Odessa Apartmento as a customer and reservations representative, where she rose to the position of accounting manager. Marjorie also holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from UPSA and has years of experience in office management and financial accounting.
And now we’d like to introduce you to a new member of our team at the Accra office: our new accountant, Peace Defor.
Peace earned a Master of Science in Accounting and Finance from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in Kumasi. Her program at the technical university—named after Ghana’s first Prime Minister and President—has educated approximately 800 students (including, incidentally, Robert and many others on our team). Her master’s degree in Accounting and Finance allowed Peace to deepen her analytical skills and provided her with a solid understanding of financial strategies. The program expanded her professional knowledge in the areas of financial reporting and risk management while sharpening her ability to make data-driven decisions.
